August 2004
This sure came together quickly. A 30-sec PSA for Palo Alto Airport Day 2004. It is airing on KICU
36 San Jose, went out in a press kit to KNTV 11 San Jose, and is running on Mountain View and Palo Alto
community cable channels. I had some small-airport airshow footage still laying around which
initially was the only thing that made me think I would even be able to do this, as Airport Day 2004
is the first airshow at Palo Alto in more than 10 years so there wasn't any recent footage. However,
it turned out that it was fun to shoot most of the footage new for this piece anyway. Airshow announcer
Larry Shapiro wrote and recorded a great auctioneer-style voiceover that grabs you and doesn't let go.
Some After Effects work to make an animated version of the Airport Day poster, some graphics, some careful
scene ordering, a little music under, and it was done. Quick projects with momentum always go well.

May 2004
I finally finished another 30-sec promo ID for Mountain View Community Television. It is the most
cinematic and most complex thing I have ever done, with a lot of heavily produced scenes. This proved
challenging because with 24(8)-bit color you can get contouring artifacts pretty quickly when you start to
manipulate images. Good thing I'm getting 30(10)-bit capable equipment now. I learned a
lot about lighting and color grading on this one. But in the end I'm a bit disappointed because this
project lost momentum several times. Still, it's a nice horror piece with interesting sound. In it, we
meet a couch potato living in a dreary big block apartment watching a lot of bad TV.

July 2000
Amazing results from a flea-sized camera attached to the footstep of a Cessna 172. The camera was just a $100
videoconferencing pickup connected to a decent VTR inside the plane. A little enhancement in After
Effects made it look a bit sharper and more colorful. Even better images are readily and inexpensively possible with today's
ubiquitous lipstick cameras. It's all about getting a cool point of view.
